Using pallets is a great option, as this provides a good amount of distance between your items and the flooring of the storage unit.

Provide Additional Insulation:

Though snow and rain may not enter your unit, the cold weather can cause moisture build up within your unit, which can potentially put your items at risk of getting damaged. A great way to ensure this does not occur to your property is to properly wrap your items with blankets. When doing this, you may want to move all of your items in the center of the storage unit and wrap everything together. This will provide better insulation, as everything will be wrapped together and because your items are pushed further away from the walls.

Upgrade Your Locking System:

Chances are, your storage unit already has great security. However, you can never be too sure that your unit is prepared for a potential break in. A great way to reduce the chance of your unit being broken into this winter is to buy an all-weather padlock that has a short arm. Buying an all-weather padlock with a short arm is great for two reasons, such as:

• They won't freeze over and potentially crack.
• The short arm will prevent bolt cutters from being able to snap the lock, allowing for potential break-ins.

So, before the winter season comes around, double check to see if your storage unit is as safe as you think it is by including these factors into your situation. This will not only help you from dealing with damages to your storage unit but will give you some peace of mind knowing that your assets are safe, even when it gets real cold and snowy outside.
